About the Role
American Geospatial does work that is visually compelling and historically significant — cemetery mapping, sub-surface exploration, archaeological investigation — but we have limited time to tell that story on social media. We're looking for a part-time Social Media Manager to change that.
This is a creative coordination role. You'll work closely with our field teams to identify the kinds of imagery and moments that communicate our work well, brief them before they go out, and then turn what they bring back into posts that reach cemetery professionals, municipal leaders, historians, and preservation advocates.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain a content calendar across AG's social platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and others as appropriate).
- Brief field workers on the types of photos, short video clips, and field moments that translate well to social content — before they head out for the day.
- Review imagery and field notes from the team and select what to use for posts.
- Write and schedule posts that reflect AG's voice: professional, grounded, and mission-driven.
- Monitor engagement and respond to comments and direct inquiries on social channels.
- Identify seasonal content hooks — cemetery heritage months, Veterans Day, local history events, research news — relevant to our work and audience.
- Track basic performance metrics and flag what's working.
What We're Looking For
- Experience managing social media for a small business, nonprofit, or similar organization.
- Strong written communication skills — you can distill specialized or technical work into accessible, engaging content without dumbing it down.
- An eye for photography and visual storytelling, even when working with imperfect field imagery.
- Comfort coordinating with a small, remote team via messaging and photo sharing.
- Experience with a social scheduling tool (Buffer, Later, Hootsuite, or similar).
- Genuine interest in history, local preservation, or community stewardship is a strong plus.
What We Offer
- Part-time, flexible hours — roughly 5–10 hours per week depending on project activity.
- Fully remote; coordination with field teams happens via messaging and shared photo libraries.
- Compensation commensurate with experience.
- The opportunity to tell stories about work that genuinely matters to the communities we serve.
